The Cave Family History Society - established in 1976 by Hugh Cave - has developed from a small group of four Cave descendants to a world-wide membership.

The society has five active projects.

  1. DNA project leading to many interesting and clarifying details, by participating members and Hugh Cave.

  2. Commonwealth War Graves of WW1. Updated 7 November 2011

  3. Commonwealth War Graves of WW2. Updated 12 Sep 2011

  4. Relating all GRO indexes of Births and Marriages to the Pedigree tables where relevant, by Hugh Cave.

  5. Relating our Database to Pedigree tables, by Lynda Hotchkiss.

The society is open to all descendants of, and from, the Cave family (and all it's variants) throughout the world. Currently there are about 150 active members. Officers of the society form the nucleus of the management, but there is always room for more to join in the administration and assist in the collection of records and data.

As stated in the Constitution the society collects data and information covering all nations of the world where members of the Cave Family have settled and have developed families. In England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales this covers the period from the time of the Norman Conquest.  In the Americas and Canada these families start from the late 16th to early 17th Century.  In Australia and New Zealand from the late 18th Century.  As a result of this collection of data the society holds many pedigree collections covering family groups in those countries. These pedigree charts are available to members of the society, and in at least one case has proven ancestry over 24 generations going back to the 13th Century. This group covers South Leicestershire and Yorkshire.

The data held includes Census returns, English and Welsh Index of Births (1837 - 2004), Deaths and Marriages (1837 - 1984), and Parish Register Births Deaths and Marriages, to name a few.

An annual gathering is held in the UK at a place of interest to the Cave Family. Details of the next gathering will be sent to all members with the bi-annual journal and will be published on the website.

Some of the information on this site will be restricted to financial members.

It then lists the names, two of which are in an extract of an article which appeared in the Spring 2011 issue of our newsletter, Caveman.
