On Saturday 18th June 2011 members met at Ashby De La Zouch Museum in Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire for the Annual Gathering of the Society. A warm welcome was extended by volunteers working at the museum, which was awarded Museum of the Year in Leicestershire in July 2010.

The day started with some sunshine but soon the clouds rolled in and it became overcast. Not that it bothered those who had faithfully made their way there.

The meeting started on time and the business of the Annual General Meeting was soon over.

A very large pedigree showing the early Cave family in Yorkshire and their descendants, Cave-Browne and Cave-Browne-Cave, proved of interest to most in the room, and the museum brought out from their archives various items relating to Stretton-en-le-Field; where the Cave-Browns and Cave-Browne-Cave families resided during the 19th century.

Some braved the rain to utilise one of the local hostelries for lunch and lunch over, we regrouped at the museum and split into two groups. One group went back out into a wet Ashby to be walked around the streets by Robert Jones from the museum. He regaled them with talks of what had happened in the town's past and showed them some buildings of significance and age. For those less fit, another museum volunteer presented the town's history as images on a screen, coupled with pictures of what the streets and buildings used to look like. A much more civilised way to see the town!

In the evening, 17 stalwarts gathered at the Royal Hotel for an evening meal, which was enjoyed by all.
